Dr. James (Jim) Fawcett received his veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1965. A Pennsylvania native, he relocated to Miami and subsequently co-founded Sunset in 1970. During the course of his career, Dr. Fawcett has held an ABVP board certification in small animal medicine and has served as the President of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association. In practice, he harbors an impressive aptitude for dentistry, among other clinical pursuits. Outside practice, Dr. Fawcett’s life is currently defined by his recent conversion to the life of a Florida Gator. (But we won’t hold it against him.)

"What we liked most is that Dr. Fawcett allowed us to stay with our cats during a checkup procedure ... a lot of other vets won't even let you go past the door to the checkup room." — Yelp Reviewer

Dr. Patty Khuly is a 1995 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s vet school and a 1997 graduate of its Wharton School. A Cuban-American Miami native and a decades-long Sunset employee, Dr. Khuly is part of the woodwork here. She started cleaning cages when she was ten and never left (apart from her years of schooling, of course). Though Dr. Khuly currently concentrates on patient care rather than on cages, cleaning kennels is a fact of life for everyone at Sunset –– even for "the boss." In addition to her hectic home life (16 pets and one human child, but who’s counting?) she maintains a busy writing career, too. Read more about her writing here.

"My go-to guru is no other than Dr. Khuly. She is BEYOND personable... She's sweet, sensitive and REALISTIC. She's never recommended anything that isn't necessary or not in the best interest for my little Heidi." - Yelp Reviewer

Dr. Robert Rochfort (otherwise known as “Rocky”) is a 1965 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, one of Sunset’s original co-founders, and our “hole in one” when it comes to cats. Though he loves dogs (in fact, he is owned by Ripley the West Highland White Terrier, who is most certainly a dog) and offers his patients fifty years’ experience practicing canine medicine, he has a unique passion for cats. Some would even go so far as to say that Rocky must have been a “cat lady” in another life. When he’s not at work, Rocky can be found on the golf course.

"One of the best places to take your pets. If you own cats Rocky (Dr. Rochfort) is one of the best in town!" - Yelp Reviewer

Meet the first permanent addition to our team of veterinarians! Dr. Guzman is a 2017 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Apart from being a Bulldog, Dr. Guzman is also a Gator (BA '13). While at UF, he studied engineering before making the switch to animal biology and pre-veterinary studies. He's also a Miami native (Miami High '09) and hails from a Cuban-American family (habla español). He has a special interest in preventative medicine and surgery. An avid Marlin's fan, Dr. Guzman lives in East Little Havana with two adorable Chihuahuas (Macho and Lady) and is soon to be married to the lovely Maria. Welcome Dr. G!
